5231 (East Side) Portchester No 172 (Dovercroft) SU 6204 11/235 II GV 2.
C18 house, altered in C19. Red brick with brick eaves cornice and old tiled mansard roof. 3 bay facade, centre part slightly advanced and gabled. 2 1/2 storeys with 1 hipped dormer, 3 windows, centre 1st floor blank. To south side large arched wooden double doors. Side facade has C18 pedimented doorcase with moulded architrave.
6 panelled doors, top 2 now glazed and 1 added C19 style casement on both floors.
Nos 162 to 174 (even), the street boundary wall at No l74, Nos 182 to 190 (even) and No 196 form a group with Nos 169 to 175 (odd) the railings and gate at No 169 and the street boundary wall at No 171. (No 175 and No l96 are buildings of local interest).
