5/14 TREE TOP COTTAGE

GV II

Late C16 or early Cl7 cottage. Timber-framed, rendered with wall to south of C19 brick. Of 3 bays and narrower bay, possible for through passage. Thatched, half hipped roof with rebuilt ridge stack. One storey and attics. One modern dormer.

Three modern windows at ground floor. Entry to through passage in modern, gabled, thatched porch. Adjoining former dairy bay to north of east end. Interior. The centre bay was originally open to the roof. The floor frame was inserted in C18 or later and is of softwood. There is a tabled scarf joint in the north wall plate. The stone hearth is a modern replacement.
