Aisled Barn near Far Fold Farm at grid ref. SE006494

Aisled barn with attached mistals and stable. c1500. C17 and C19. Coursed gritstone rubble with ashlar dressings. Sandstone slate and corrugated iron sheeting roofs. Quoins. Single storey. South front, central aisled barn has set back cart entrance to left with double plank doors. Projecting aisle, mistal to right has single window, this section raised on a plinth, return to left has a doorway and to right a window. Attached to the east a C17 mistal with a central door with chamfered ashlar surround, flanked on eitherside by single windows both converted from doorways. East front has a single window and a boarded loft opening above. To the rear of this mistal an attached C19 stable with an eastern doorway. Attached to the west a C19 lean-to mistal with to the south a doorway to the left and a window to the right. To the west 2 openings, and to the north a plank door in ashlar surround. Rear of the barn has a blocked cart entrance.
Interior: Aisled barn has two large trusses, c1500, supported on two posts with arched braces, which rest on square tapering pad stones. Western truss has a broad king post and very broad curved principals, the eastern truss has a similar king post and very broad straight principals and both tie beams have chamfer stops with incised leaf design. The south aisle to the eastern truss has a curved principal with a straight brace. Original through purlins largely replaced by pairs of overlapping purlins, rafters are largely renewed. To the east an intermediate truss supported on a masonry pillar.
