CONISTON A593 SD 39 NW (North side) Yew Tree Farmhouse 5/84 (formerly listed with 25.3.70 barn) GV II

Farmhouse. C17 with mid C18 addition (door latch dated: "1743/CWA"). Stone rubble, front wing is roughcast, slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Windows have casements. Central entrance has wide-boarded door with slate open gabled porch. Gable-end stacks. Rear wing is lower, of 2 bays; fire window and round gable-end stack on square base; slate open gabled porch, one side missing.

Interior: Rear wing has 2 upper cruck trusses. Front wing has fielded-panel partition with dado rail, cornice and 2-panel door. Room has 2 adjacent cupboards with fielded-panel doors. Stair has turned balusters and square newels. Some plank add muntin partitioning and wide-boarded doors to 1st floor. Property of The National Trust, the gift of Beatrix Potter.
