4/165 Nancegollan Farmhouse, front and - rear garden walls and gate piers

GV II

Farmhouse, front and rear garden walls and gate piers. Circa early C19. Granite rubble and dressed rubble brought to course, dressed granite quoins, sills, jambstones and lintels, sides and rear painted. Hipped U-plan scantle slate roof, the parallel rear roofs with valley between. Brick chimneys over the side walls. Double depth plan with 2 front rooms flanking a front entrance and stair hall, the left hand room slightly wider. The passage on the right of the stair leads to a rear entrance and former servants stair (now removed) with a rear service room on either side. Later lean-to on left towards rear. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3 window west front with central doorway and 4-panel door with overlight, shallow porch with elliptically-headed arch and original 12-pane hornless sashes. Rear has 4 first floor window openings, the 1 second from left blind with back door under. 6-panel flush beaded door with 3-pane overlight. Original 16-pane hornless sashes at ground floor left and to the 1st floor. Probably also original 15-pane 2- light casement to ground floor right. The former stair window, right of the doorway, being altered to doorway at the time of survey. Interior fairly complete with original front stair, doors, most partitions, floors and roof structure. Front garden has rubble walls with granite coping along the front, quadrant-on-plan where these curve into meet the granite monolith piers of the central gateway. The rear walls enclose an irregular courtyard. Rubble walls with partly dressed copings and gate piers. This house is part of an unspoiled farm group, with 2 of the barns included in this list but there are older former houses (now derelict) not included.
