Warehousing and possibly ship builders yard, now a public house. Probably C18.
Brick in Flemish bond with stone rubble plinth. Slate hung above ground floor of
central wing. Scantle slate roof with hipped ends; the eaves have been raised by at
least 2 brick courses. Brick end stack on left.
Plan: Overall long rectangular single depth plan with central front wing of 1-room
plan.
Exterior: 2 storeys and attic. Regular 4:2:5 window front with C20 windows with
glazing bars. Moulded brick string course with segmental brick arches and timber
lintels to ground floor openings. Several of the openings have been altered. To
left, wide plank doors flanked by 2 casements to left and sash to right. First floor
with 3 casements and sash. Central wing with first floor reslated in late C20; two
C20 windows on ground and first floor. To right C20 door flanked by four C20 windows
with 4 above and oriel window over entrance. 4 full dormers with raking roofs and 2-
light casements.
Interior: Largely gutted, the right hand and central wing forming 1 large bar.
Timber lintel to end fireplace on right. First floor not inspected.
Several published old photographs illustrate the building prior to alterations. A
large sawpit originally stood directly in front.
