The engine house contains a Yates and Thom Twin Horizontal Cross Compound engine, the largest engine of its kind in the UK, capable of generating 2200 horse power. The engine house was restored in 2015, making it safe, watertight and usable, and allowing restoration of the engine to commence.


Opening Arrangements

Saturday 10am - 2pm; bank holidays 10am - 2pm; Heritage Open Weekends; other times by appointment.


By car: from East, West and South leave the A580 at the Greyhound roundabout onto A574. After 1 mile turn right at traffic lights and Park Lane is the third road on the right. From the North leave A579 onto Twist Lane, then onto Spinning Jenny Way to turn right at traffic lights onto Chapel Street. Through traffic lights onto Manchester Rd and then third right into Park Lane. Satnav post code is WN7 2LB. Buses: all from Leigh to Manchester and Leigh to Warrington.
