Description

The library is situated in the south cloister of Durham Cathedral, and includes the former octagonal kitchen further south, built between 1366 and 1374 by John Lewyn. The library is above the undercroft and has 17th century bookcases and press. The roof is timber, and has large parallel ribs and corbels. According to the Cathedral Library, it has the most complete medieval monastic library in the UK.
