Chisbury Chapel, Chisbury, Wiltshire

The lord of Chisbury Manor built a chapel-of-ease in the 13th century. This meant that the people living and working in the manor, and other local people, could attend services here without having to travel to the parish church at Great Bedwyn. They could also pay their taxes or tithes here. The building ceased to be used as a consecrated chapel in 1547 after the Reformation of the English church. It was later used as a barn which was part of Chisbury farm. This property is in the care of English Heritage (2011). Read more.
