Churche's Mansion, Nantwich, Cheshire

This large timber framed house was built in 1577 by Richard Church. It is an important 16th century house which escaped the Great Fire of 1583. The fire destroyed most of the town and money for rebuilding was donated by Queen Elizabeth I. This house was modified in the 18th century and has been restored more recently. In 1883 a moat could still be traced around the building.
