Jaunie Wife House, Troutbeck, Cumbria

This farmhouse dates from the 17th century and has been added to in the 19th and 20th centuries. It was built of local materials; rubble Lakeland stone with a Westmorland slate roof. The buildings are arranged in a line. The original house is in the centre between a barn and a granary. They are built in a sheltered position. This type of building, built in a local style from local materials, is called a vernacular building.
