The area of planned streets in the foreground is part of the area of Pimlico developed by Thomas Cubitt from the 1840s. In contrast on the right is part of the London County Council Grosvenor Housing Estate including blocks of high-rise flats, built in the late 1940s. St Gabriel's Church. Warwick Square, is central (built 1853). Victoria Station can be seen to the west, and the Houses of Parliament to the north.
