Railway Station, Zetland Road, Middlesbrough

The railway station was opened in 1877. It was designed by William Peachey for the North Eastern Railway Co in a Gothic style and cost £100,000. On 3rd August, 1942 two German bombs made a direct hit on the centre of the building. The roof was almost totally destroyed and a train standing at platform one, about to leave for Newcastle, was completely wrecked. It was reroofed and given a facelift in November 1954.
