SCHEDULE TRENT AND MERSEY CANAL SJ 75 NE 5/103 (Wheelock) Lock No.66 GV II Pair of parallel locks, south lock circa 1775 by James Brindley, Engineer, north lock added circa 1830 (Consultant, Thomas Telford). Blue and red bricks with stone dressing and wooden gates. South lock has raking stone abutments to work in with stone steps and the lock side copings are of stone. The lower (west) wooden gates were replaced in 1938 and the upper gate (east) replaced in wood in 1986. The north lock has rusticated vertical stone abutments, stone copings north but south side mainly concrete. The upper gates (west) were replaced in wood in 1959 and the lower gate was also replaced in wood, in 1984.
