- II House. Early-mid C19. Stuccoed rubble with ashlar dressings, artificial
stone slate and Westmorland slate roofs. 2 storeys, 3 x 3 bays. East
front: ashlar plinth and chamfered rusticated quoins. Ground floor, to
right: Roman Doric pedimented distyle portico with triglyphs, metopes,
guttae and mutules; within portico, door of 6 reeded panels below basket-
arched fanlight, with tripartite keystone partly-hidden by portico, and
flanking 8-pane sash windows in ashlar surrounds, framed by pilasters; to
left, segmental bow with tripartite windows with glazing bars, the central
section sashed, and with flat lead roof. First-floor band. First floor:
sash windows with glazing bars in ashlar surrounds. Eaves band. Artificial
stone slate roof hipped to left. Corniced ashlar stacks between first and
second bays and at right end. To right, single-storey wing with canted bay
of French windows, hipped Westmorland slate roof. South elevation: ashlar
plinth, quoins as before, first-floor band. Sash windows in architraves, of
24 panes on ground floor, 16 panes on first floor. Eaves band. West
elevation: 3 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. Ashlar plinth, chamfered
rusticated quoins. Ground floor: central door of 6 reeded panels below 3-
pane overlight in deep ashlar surround; to left, 16-pane sash window in
ashlar surround; to right, 24-pane sash window. First floor: 16-pane sash
window in ashlar surround; two 9-pane unequally-hung sash windows. Second
floor: sash window with glazing bars in ashlar surround; 9-pane unequally-
hung sash window. Eaves band. Ashlar coping left; artificial stone slate
roof, hipped to right. Ashlar corniced stacks at left end and between
second and third bays. To left: 2 storey brick service range. North side:
irregular plan. M roof. Interior: doors and shutters of reeded panels,
moulded and decorative cornices; open well staircase with scrolled brackets
and stick balusters.
