GV II* Large house, later C18, extended in early C19, now derelict. Ashlar facade,
watershot coursed sandstone sides and rear, hipped slate roof with chimneys on
the ridge and at left side wall. Double-depth plan, 5 bays plus 3 added at
left. Three storeys, symmetrical, pedimented facade in classical style, with
1st floor band, fluted frieze with swags, dentilled cornice, parapet; 3-bay
pedimented centre breaking forwards slightly has prominent square porch (C19)
containing doorway with egg-and-dart surround, flanked by coupled fluted
Corinthian pilasters with entablature, cornice, and balustrade decorated with
lions' heads, swags, etc., and large triple-light sashes in each side; 1st
floor window above has pilastered architrave with segmental pediment, 2nd
floor window above this has moulded architrave; otherwise all windows sashed
without glazing bars, those at 2nd floor smaller. Pediment contains cartouche
surmounted by a lion and flanked by swags. Continuing to left, slightly set
back, is pedimented 3-bay extension in matching style. Right return wall has
later C19 2-storey polygonal bay. Rear has, inter alia, a round-headed
stairlight. Interior: now badly decayed but elaborate moulded plaster
visible, and coved alcove. History: was home of Turner family, landonwers in
the township.
