Farmhouse, now house. Said to be the mediaeval manor house of Sir John de la Rivere, c. 1350, C15 to rear, late C17/early C18 additions and alterations at right return, remodelled and refronted early C19 with some later alterations. Front of finely squared, coursed rubble with stone dressings, stone tiled roof with ridge and gable stacks, rubble, rear of rear wing in large blocks of coursed freestone similar to work on upper stage of tower of Church of St. Mary Magdalene (q.v.), double Roman tiles, slates, partly rendered to west. Accumulated additions forming L-plan. 2 storeys and 3 windows, 3 bays to left and straight joint between bay to right; to left, two 30-pane sashes and central 24-pane sash at first floor all in slightly raised surround, ground floor has two 30-pane sashes and central flat-roofed porch with pilasters, frieze, cornice and parapet, C19 panelled and glazed door, band course above ground floor windows; bay to right in smaller blocks of rubble has 3-light casement with flat mullions, leaded lights and iron stanchions, similar blocked window above with hood mould, quoins left and right. Left return blank; right return has large heavy bolection- moulded doorcase with plank and batten door, lean-to with double Roman tiled roof along ground floor, 2-light casement with timber lintel at ground floor right, rear wing set forward has three 2-light casements at first floor, 2-light hipped dormer, heavy plank and batten door to left of wing with raised fillets and strap hinges, single storey attached outhouse to right. Rear of main house has 2-storey rear addition, mid C19, with two 2-light casements at ground floor with flat mullions, similar window under eaves, slate roof to addition, 2½ storey flat- roofed addition to right with small 4-pane light at upper level. Rear of rear wing has large external stack, weathered and with bolster base to right, at upper level 2 shields of arms of de Rivere, with hood moulds, first floor left has 2-light casement with hollow-chamfered mullion and hood mould; projecting 1½ storey wing to right has single light at ground floor with leaded lights and timber lintel, rectangular chamfered lancet above, west elevation of wing has similar 2-light hollow-chamfered casement under eaves, rendered to west with slightly battered walls; single storey early C19 addition to right with sash in gable end with segmental head. Interior: early C19 straight stair; kitchen to rear right has fireplace with heavy stone lintel, narrow oven to right, heavy chamfered beams; room to front right open to full height of roof, 3 bays visible, 2 rows of purlins, tie-beam and king-post trusses, heavy lateral beam with mortices, large fireplace with triangular-headed oven to right and large circular brewing copper to left.
