GV II
Shippon. Dated 1668 on lintel of door; slightly altered. Mixed random rubble with quoins, stone slate roof. Rectangular 2-unit plan on east-west axis, facing north. Two low storeys and 2 bays, with very narrow slit breathers and gable copings with kneelers; the western bay has a square-headed doorway with moulded surround, a rectangular lintel with raised lettering "R+R /I I # PM / 1668" (the # representing a square with circled corners) and a hoodmould, and above and to left of this a loading doorway with chamfered jambs and a wooden lintel; the eastern bay has a square headed doorway with a plain C19 surround, flanked by a pair of very small chamfered rectangular windows. Gable walls and rear all blind, but left end has traces of a formerly adjoining building. INTERIOR: laterally partitioned at ground floor only, with a loft floor to western bay; 2 lateral sets of 3 wooden boskins in each bay (probably C19); 4 principal- rafter roof trusses carrying 2 pairs of purlins. Forms a good visual and functional group with the barn approx. 5 metres north- east (q.v.), the pair representing a good example of an upland "outfarm" .
