3/94 Range of Farm Buildings at Mattersey Hill Farm

Range of farm buildings. Early C19. Red brick, wood and ashlar. Pantile and slate roofs. Single, 1 1/2 and 2 storeys. Red brick 2 storey, 6 bay barn with hipped pantile roof, dentillated eaves and 1st floor band, having from left to right a doorway with wooden door under a segmental arch, a blocked doorway under segmental arch, a single flight of brick and stone coped steps with iron hand rail, leading to the 1st floor and covering 2 blocked openings one under a segmental arch, the other an archway. Further right is a single opening with wooden shutter and a single blocked opening under a segmental arch. Above from left to right are 2 slatted openings with glazing bar overlights under segmental arches, a doorway with wooden door, a single similar slatted opening and arch, a single blocked opening under a segmental arch and a similar slatted opening and arch. Attached to the left and set back is a single storey wood and slate 5 bay stable block. Having 2 glazing bar fixed lights alternating with 2 doorways with wooden stable doors. The sills of the lights are level with the door lintels. To the right is a doorway with wooden door. Projecting from the left is a 1 1/2 storey and 2 storey red brick and pantile barn range with dentillated eaves. The 1 1/2 storey, 3 bay wing has 2 doorways with wooden doors, the left one under a segmental arch. Above is a slatted opening with overlight. In the right gable are 3 rows of pigeon holes and ledges. The 2 storey barn, with hipped roof to the left, has 3 red brick stacks to the front. There is a large doorway with wooden door, to the left a single blocked opening, to the right a single glazing bar fixed light, a blocked doorway and a single blocked opening. There are 3 slit ventilators on the ground floor and 5 on the 1st floor. Projecting from the left is a red brick and hipped pantile single storey 3 bay range with dentillated eaves. Having a large doorway with sliding wooden door and a blocked opening to the left. To the right, in the re-entrant angle between this range and the barn, is a later hipped pantile wing with doorway with double wooden door under a blocked segmental arch. Backing on to the rear of the barn is a red brick and pantile gin gang with 5 further sides, all blocked, one now containing a doorway with large double wooden door. Included for group value only.
