TF 2669 HORNCASTLE EAST STREET (south side)

7/40 Nos. 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32 (formerly 7.12.66 listed as No 28) II

House, now 4 houses. Early C19, C20. Red brick with painted stucco and ashlar dressings, some colourwashed render. Pantile roof with stone coped gables, some concrete tiles and gable stacks. U-plan. Central 3 storey, 3 bay slightly projecting north front with plinths, flanked by single 2 storey bays. Steps lead up to central doorway with flanking half columns, open pediment, fanlight and panelled door. A window below, on each side, with single glazing bar sash to left, C20 cross mullion casement to right, both with voussoired stucco wedge lintels and raised moulded keystones. In bay to left a doorway with pointed head, broad, flat moulded surround, imposts, narrow flanking lights, traceried head and partially glazed door. Outline of similar doorway in lower bay to right, now blocked and with a 2 light C20 casement inserted. Doorway flanked by single semi- circular headed glazing bar sashes, each with flanking pilasters, imposts, rusticated head and raised keystone. Single glazing bar sash in each outer bay with wedge lintel and raised keystone. 3 central glazing bar sashes above, all with voussoired wedge lintels and raised keystones. Projecting 2 storey, 5 bay projecting north-east range with basement window to left with segmental head and 3 light sash. To the right, a blind opening with 2 glazing bar sashes to left and doorway beyond, all with voussoired wedge lintels with raised keystones. South-west corner with C19 shop front modified in C20, with doorway on curved corner with blind overlight and panelled door. Projecting north- west range with a colourwashed render and C20 fenestration, not of special interest.
