Gledhow Manor GV II Stables, coach house and cottage to 'Red House', now Gledhow
Manor (qv). c1903. By SD Kitson and FW Bedford for Major
Bagnal of Kirkstall Forge, stable fittings supplied by the St
Pancras Iron Company. Brick, Flemish bond, stone moulded
string course at 1st-floor level, rendered above, grey tile
hipped roof.
A long L-shaped range of 1 and 1/2 storeys, composed of (left
to right): 2-bay cottage, recessed bay with carriage arch,
loose box and stabling for 4 horses, a cottage with angled
entrance, projecting 2-bay tack-room and coach-house/garage
range with glazed canopy.
Most small-pane windows boarded over; main features include,
left to right: cottage doorway with canopy on curved brackets,
canted bay window, segmental arch of clay tiles, wide
loose-box door with segmental brick arch, stable door with
side lights under a wide tile arch, hay loft entrance above,
flanking windows, corner doorway in added glazed porch under
canopy supported on cast-iron column. The coach house
entrances altered. Deep modillion eaves cornices, the eaves
height rising with ground slope, moulded brick stacks and
ventilator over hay loft.
INTERIOR: left end cottage has original cast-iron fire
surround to ground floor; original fittings to loose box and
stables including panelled cast-iron partitions with ball
finials, feeding troughs and mangers, corner cupboard and feed
shute.
