GV II*

Detached house. Centre block c1694, built as 2 houses and
refaced later C19 in Neo-Georgian style; wing at north end
early C18; wing at south end a later addition.
Centre block: multi-coloured stock brick with red brick band
at 1st floor level. 3 storeys 4 windows. Projecting pedimented
porch. Gauged red brick flat arches to flush framed sashes
with exposed boxing. Parapet.
Projecting north wing: brown brick with red brick band at 1st
floor level. Tiled hipped roof with segmental headed dormer on
south side. 2 storeys 3 windows. Gauged brick flat arches to
flush framed sashes with exposed boxing. Timber modillion
cornice.
INTERIOR: not inspected but noted to retain 2 original
staircases with moulded rails and twisted balusters.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the centre block became one house soon after
being built, was divided again in 1801 and at the end of the
C19 was the family home of Edward Bell, publisher, the
remainder being The Mount School.
