Carrow Abbey, Bracondale, Norfolk

A Benedictine priory (nunnery) was founded in here in 1146. The most complete building left from the priory is the Prioress's lodgings. These were built by Isabel Wygan, the penultimate prioress (1503-35) of the priory. The priory was closed in 1538 as part of the Dissolution of the monasteries. The whole site, including the Prioress's lodging, was given to a Sir John Shilton. Most of the former Prioress's lodging was re-modelled between 1899 and 1909 for the Colman family.
