Frog Island, Leicester

Looking across the Grand Union Canal towards the factories on Frog Island. This is one of a series of photographs taken to record factories in Leicester at this time. This area of Leicester was near to the centre. It was one of the main areas for hosiery bleaching, dyeing and finishing in the East Midlands. There were also some woollen and worstead factories. The image shows vividly how much more industrial Leicester was then compared with the present time (2013).
