Description

The gardens at Hidcote Manor were created by Major Lawrence Johnston between 1907 and 1948, when the gardens were acquired by the National Trust. The gardens are described as being in the Arts and Crafts style, and form a series of named 'rooms'. The Circle and Red Borders were part of the first stage of the garden to be developed by Johnston, between 1907 and 1914. The second stage, between 1914 and 1920, included the Stilt Garden.
