John Laing & Son Ltd built a new cement works for Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd at this chalk quarry in Upper Beeding near Shoreham-By-Sea, with work in the quarry starting in February 1949. The work on the site was varied and complex and included the construction of buildings at the cement works, rail sidings and a coal-handling plant. This photograph is a copy negative of an aerial photo taken by 'Aerosurveys', believed to be Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd.
This image was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20.
