Description

The series contains 916 ring binders of colour photographic prints glued to pages. The images show locations in England, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

These albums contain photographs made from negatives taken by Aerofilms between about 1960 and 2006 and were maintained by the company as a geographical index into the negative collection for the purpose of processing customer inquiries. The NMR continues to use the albums for this purpose. Most prints in the album have a location, date and negative number recorded beside them.

The albums contain mainly 5"x5" oblique air photographs but also thumbnail 1.5"x1.5" prints; these are sometimes stuck onto card or loose in little paper envelopes. These loose thumbnails seem to be copies of the album's "master" 5"x5" print, originally intended for customers to take away with them for reference. Sometimes there are photocopies in these albums. It is not clear whether these are duplicates or represent missing prints. Scattered throughout the albums are vertical prints and oblique photographs taken with vertical cameras.

A handlist is available.
