The series comprises sixteen photographs of polygonal cottages, including roundhouses and octagonal buildings. Many of the Essex examples date from the early to mid 17th century, when Canvey Island was reclaimed by Dutch settlers. Others were built as estate cottages or gatehouses (Holkham, Norfolk; Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk; and Dillington Park, Somerset). Several of the five roundhouses built for Rev. Jeremiah Twist in Veryan, Cornwall, are shown, along with A la Ronde at Sumner Lane, Exmouth.
Some photographs in the series EFC01/01/05/007 'Cottages' also show Polygonal Cottages.
This is part of the Sub Series: EFC01/01/05 Domestic Building Types; within the Series: EFC01/01 Series of 35mm slides; within the Collection: EFC01 Edifice Collection
