Description

Photograph album labelled 'Aerodromes: Filton Runway' containing 60 black and white prints showing the construction of the airfield and runway at Filton. Included are images of the public viewing of an airplane, probably the Brabazon 1 airliner, and of its construction within a hanger, as well as photographs documenting experimental research into building materials and views showing the loading and transport of concrete aggregates. Also included are photographs showing the site progress and planning department, a couple of street views of The Carpenters Arms and Post Office at Charlton, and officials and crowds, prehaps at Patchway, as well as images of an unidentified partially demolished house, a ruined house and panoramic views of the site being excavated and the runway being laid.

Some photographs were taken by Stewart Bale Ltd, commercial photographers of Liverpool, and BAC Ltd.
