Photograph album labelled 'Aerodromes: Filton Runway', containing 52 black and white prints showing the construction of Filton runway in 1947 and the airplane, Brabazon 1, prior to its maiden flight on 4 October 1949.
The images from 1947 document the laying, spreading and compacting of the runway and include photographs showing the loading of concrete aggregate, the concrete batch mixing plant and wobble-wheel, sheepsfoot and steam power rollers in use.
The album also contains images of the Brabazon airplane on the runway prior to its maiden flight on 4 October 1949, (this includes two images taken by P.A. Reuter), and a portrait of the crew standing by the airplane.
This album and some of the images it contains was catalogued in 2013 as part of a pilot project funded by the John Laing Charitable Trust.
This is part of the Series: JLP01/01 John Laing Photographic Collection Project Albums; within the Collection: JLP01 John Laing Photographic Collection
