Brixton Recreation Centre was opened in 1984. The building was designed by George Finch of the Lambeth Borough Council Architects’ Department. It is thought of as one of the architect's most important buildings, and was the first phase and central hub of the replanning of Brixton, led by Ted Hollamby of Lambeth Borough Council. It was listed at Grade II in 2016.
