Mock castle of 1799 by James Wyatt on a spectacular site overlooking the Solent. At risk due to backlog of repairs and maintenance, causing deterioration of significant historic fabric including to roofs, walls, windows and interiors. A planning application for the redevelopment of the site as a branded resort, which would have harmed the significance of the site, has recently been turned down. Proposals for repair along with a sympathetic and sustainable use are urgently required.
