with additions and alterations of mid C19 and few later alterations. Slatestone
rubble with granite dressings, re-using granite features of earlier date, probably
C17. Slate roof, with raised coped verges to the left gable end; crested ridge tiles
and gable ends; gable end stacks to the main range with cornices, to left with rubble
shaft and to right with rendered shaft.
Plan: Originally a 2-room plan house, each room heated by a gable end stack; probably
later in the C19 a 2-storey porch was added, giving a front entrance directly into
the room to left. An addition of one-room plan, unheated, was made to the left end,
open fronted and open-sided at ground floor. Tudor Gothic style.
Exterior: 2 storeys, an asymmetrical range with the 2-storey gabled porch to left,
with raised coped verges and kneelers; at ground floor a 4-centred arched chamfered
granite doorway, with recessed spandrels with roundels and hood mould, at first floor
a 2-light chamfered granite casement with hood mould. The left side of the porch has
similar lower doorway. Inner granite doorway with depressed 4-centred arch, with
roll-mouldings and recessed spandrels; plain door. At ground floor, to right of the
porch, 2-light chamfered granite casement with hood mould, and similar window above
at first floor. Lower 2-storey one-room plan addition to left, with tall 4-centred
arched convex-moulded doorway leading to the open area at ground floor, 2-light
chamfered granite casement with hood mould to right and granite string course over.
At the right end is a single storey lean-to and short range of single storey
outhouses. The left end forms the road front of the lodge; it is open at the ground
storey with moulded granite doorway with cast iron railings across, with trefoil
finials, string course over, and at first floor a 2-light chamfered granite casement
with hood mould. The rear of the single storey addition has a doorway and casement
as at the front. Inside the open-ended passage, there is a 3-light granite casement.
The rear of the main house has brick lean-to with hollow-chamfered 4-centred arched
doorway. Ground floor has canted bay with 3-light chamfered granite window, 2-light
granite casement and C20 window. Porch to right with parapet built up with coping,
4-centred arched granite doorway to front with inner plain door. First floor has two
2-light granite casements and central C20 window.
