A large Great Western Railway mobile hoisting mechanism no.48999, in place on the Liskeard Viaduct on Sunday the 20th June 1926. This impressive piece of machinery had extendable 'arms' and was used to lift iron bridge or viaduct girders into place

Archival History

This image was received from Timothy Lingard, owner of the Gallery Lingard in Pall Mall, London, who specialised in architectural drawings and perspectives. These images were part of the larger Sotheby's auction lot 524, 28/04/1988, and were unwanted by Lingard and subsequently donated to the N.M.R.
