CLIFFE FORT BRENNAN TORPEDO SLIPWAYS MEDWAY, KENT

Author(s): Paul Pattison

An archaeological survey was undertaken by the RCHME at Cliffe Fort, on the River Thames in Kent, following a request from John Williams, County Archaeologist for Kent County Council. The survey was designed to record two launching bays of a Brennan Torpedo Station which were threatened by repairs to the river bank. The launching bays are built into the ditch and counterscarp bank on the eastern side of an 1860's coastal fort and were originally connected to storage and operations rooms inside the fort itself.
