THE SAMPLING AT RUNNYMEDE AND TREATMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES.

Author(s): M A Girling, J R A Greig

The environmental fieldwork was organised by Maureen Girling who arranged suitable strategies for dealing with geomagnetic samples, pollen, general environmentalsamples, wood/ charcoal, animal bone, and radiocarbondating. The general environmental samples were sieved and sorted at the Ancient Monuments Laboratory using fairly standard methods. The aims of this were to collect and process a representative amount of material from each archaeological context excavated, and also collect a stratigraphic series of samples from representative sections.
