Bonewaldesthorne Tower on the City Walls, Chester, Cheshire

Bonewaldesthorne's Tower is at the northwest corner of the city walls of Chester. The tower has been documented since 1249. It was rebuilt or altered in 1322–26 when it became the gatehouse to the Water Tower. This and other towers on the city walls incorporate elements of the walls and towers of the Roman fortress of Deva. Deva was a Roman Legionary Fortress. It was built between 78-86 AD. It was occupied by the Legio II Adiutrix (The Second Assistant Legion). They were from the Mediterranean.
