Lanhydrock House, Lanhydrock, Cornwall

The name Lanhydrock comes from St Hydroc, believed to be an Irish missionary to Cornwall. The estate was owned by the Priory of St Petroc in Bodmin until the dissolution of the monasteries in the 1530s. After a number of owners, it was purchased by Sir Richard Robartes. He was a powerful local merchant. In 1620 Sir Robert and his son John built a new house on the site. It was a traditional house built around a central courtyard. The house was remodelled by Sir Gilbert Scott in the mid 19th century. It was gutted by fire in 1881 and was rebuilt in 1882.
