Turnip Lock, Hadley, Telford and Wrekin

This is a lock on the now disused Shrewsbury Canal. The canal was begun in 1793 by Joseph Clowes. Clowes died in 1795 and was replaced by Thomas Telford as the chief engineer. The canal and this lock were completed in 1796. Turnip Lock and Hadley Park lock are the only locks on the canal to retain their original mechanisms.
