Description

The original Custom House, built in 1781, was destroyed by fire in 1813 and was rebuilt. The symmetrical curved stairs on either side of the main entrance are copied from Poole Guild Hall. The medieval town beam in front of the Custom House was used to weigh wool. It was repaired in the mid-20th century.
