The photograph is part of a set taken for Smith & Wellstood Ltd, described in the Bedford Lemere daybook as 'Mantelpieces (mahogany & walnut)'. The location at which the photographs were taken is unclear but the company are known to have had premises at 11 Ludgate Circus and 8 Upper Thames Street in the City of London as well as their foundry in Bonnybridge, Scotland.
