Description

Makepeace Mansions probably date from the late 1920s. The flats were originally designed as bed-sitting rooms with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. The development was seen as an acceptable way for single women to live in London; later the London Borough of Camden acquired the blocks as social housing and had a policy of placing only women on the estate.
