Description

Thirty-six mounted prints exhibited by Charles J P Cave in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s showing roof bosses, painted panels and carved capitals in churches, abbeys and cathedrals in England.

The sites featured in the collection are Winchester Cathedral, Tewksbury Abbey, Ottery St Mary Church, Norwich Cathedral, Southwell Minster, Exeter Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, Abbey Dore Church, Hinton Ampner Church, Westminster Abbey, Bere Regis Church, Boxgrove Priory and Peterborough Cathedral.

The collection also includes a print showing the former Church of St Peter and St Paul, at one time Sinan Pasha Mosque, at Famagusta in Cyprus, as well as a print showing the former St Sophia’s Cathedral, now Selimiye Mosque, at Nicosia.

Information recorded on the backs of the mounts indicate that the exhibitions at which some of the prints were hung include the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, the Petersfield Photographic Society and the Exhibition of Photography in Science and Industry held by the Association of Scientific Workers.
