Beauchamp Almshouses, Newland, Worcestershire

View of the Beauchamp Almshouses, showing pensioners returning from church. They were built in 1862-3 by the architect Mr P.C. Hardwick. They were paid for by John, the 3rd Lord Beauchamp who left £60,000 for the building of almshouses for 12 or more poor men or women who had been employed in agriculture. In 1892 it is recorded that there were 24 pensioners, who as well as having rent free rooms also got free coal, medicine and a weekly allowance.
