Castle of Shrawardine, Shrawardine, Shropshire

These are the ruins of a medieval castle. It is thought the castle was originally founded after the Conquest by order of Henry I. It was first documented in 1165 when Philip Helgot wrote acknowledging service of the castle guard to the Crown. It was destroyed by the Welsh in 1215 when Llewellyn captured Shrewsbury. It was rebuilt in about 1240. The castle was demolished by Parliamentary forces in 1645.
