Former Gin Distillery, Southside Street, Plymouth

This building has had many uses. It was originally a large merchant's house dating from around 1500. It was used as a gaol in 1605 and as the Congregational meeting house from 1689-1705. It was remodelled and extended as a gin distillery from 1793 and was owned by the firm of Coates. It has since been used as a public house and restaurant. The 1st floor hall contains what is probably the most important roof in Plymouth in architectural terms which was carefully repaired following damage during the Blitz.
