Longford Castle, Longford Park, Odstock, Wiltshire

This house was built in 1591 for Sir Thomas Gorges. It was probably influenced by Tresham's Lodge at Rushton that was begun 1580. It is depicted in series of plans and drawings by Thackery in 1680s when it was owned by Lord Coleraine. It was sold to the Bouveries in 1717 and has remained with them until present day. It was remodelled by James Wyatt in 1796 and again in 1802-17 by D.A Alexander. It was restored during the 1870s by A. Salvin. It is surrounded by parkland, partly landscaped by Capability Brown.
