Nos 1 to 30 Circus, Bath, Bath and North East Somerset

The Circus was designed by the architect John Wood the elder. The building work was carried out by his son around 1753-59. It is divided into 3 blocks, all of the same size but each with a different number of houses. The design includes all 3 types of classical columns; Doric on the ground floor, Ionic on the 1st floor and Corinthian on the 2nd floor. 3 famous people have lived here; William Pitt, Clive of India and the artist, Gaisborough.
