Plumptre Hospital, Plumptre Square, Nottingham

The present Plumptre Hospital was designed and built by the architect Edward Staveley in 1832. Plumptre Hospital was founded in 1392 by John Plumptre. This was after a licence had been granted by King Richard II, for the support of thirteen poor women. During the dissolution of the monasteries the chantry of the hospital was dissolved and Plumptre hospital and its income were vested in the crown. In 1650 the building, now in a poor state, was pulled down and a new brick building was built. It was repaired in 1751, before these buildings were built in 1823.
