Priory Middle School, Priory Row, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk

Part of this school was once the great hall of the domestic building of a Benedictine Priory. The priory was founded in 1101 by Bishop Herbert de Losinga. It was for just 3-4 monks. It was made much bigger in 1260. This Great Hall was built in c1300. At one point there was a prior, 8 monks, 3 chaplains, a deacon and 2 clerks. It was dissolved (closed) in 1539. The building was restored and altered in 1853 by J H Hakewill. It was again extended in 1947.
